Cannonball Sonoma Merlot

Cannonball wines are sourced from select regions throughout California. The diverse microclimates, topography and soils provide the perfect palette to create wines that are complex, highly consistent, and a pure expression of the variey. Sourced from foggy Monterey to gravelly Livermore, sunny Paso Robles to mountainous Santa Lucia Highlands in pursuit of bright fruit flavors, supple easy tannins and alluring acidity to craft the final blend.

This Merlot presents like a classic claret with red currant and cherry fruit on the nose, its red robe enhanced by a characteristic blue undertone and violet hue typical of the variety. On the palate, this Merlot delivers a mix of red and blue fruit – plum and blueberry accented by a back note of cocoa and an attractive pinch of dried herb. The midpalate tannins are soft but present and provide structure for the berry fruit profile. Restrained bramble fruit, raspberry and boysenberry kissed by a whiff of toffee character from French oak aging linger on the finish with the firm yet fine tannins. This wine has enough backbone to accompany red meats, Asian duck and pasta with rich sauces. Enjoy!
