Last week we announced that we’ve teamed up with The Wine Merchant Magazine and Hatch Mansfield to thank local heroes during Covid-19. We are giving each winner a bottle of Vidal Sauvignon Blanc and Errazuriz Wild Ferment Pinot Noir to thank them for all their hard work and keeping us going. We have had dozens of nominations and will be announcing further prize winners on Thursday so keep your nominations coming and keep your eyes out for our emails and social media posts announcing the winners!
This week’s winners are…
Margaret ‘Mags’ Twist- Multiple Nominations.
For those of you from Whalley and Billington ‘Mags’ is a bit of a local legend. If there’s a group that’s designed to help out local people and try and make Whalley and Billington a better place you can bet your last quid Mags is involved. An active figure in the Lions, Whalley Flood Action group, Pickwick, and now the Whalley Community group helping to organise and deliver meals, shopping, medicine and other bits around the local community. Mags epitomises what these awards are about, a normal member of the community doing the little things to help others. The fact that she rarely gets much public credit despite the tireless work she puts in is why we wanted to give her this little token of appreciation. Thanks Mags for all the hard work!
Amy Verity – Nominated by her friend Fabio.
“I’d like to nominate Amy Verity as my very deserving Covid Hero!
She works in the dispensary right here at Whalley Surgery doing her duty to keep people well stocked with medication in this crisis.
At the beginning of lockdown although she only works Monday to Friday (as the surgery is closed weekends) herself and her husband got out in their cars and hand delivered patients medication over the weekend on Saturday and Sunday to their own homes.
Working right through the crisis over Easter weekend and the bank holidays to ensure everyone could receive their prescriptions.
And also it’s her birthday tomorrow (29/05)!
So that is some of the reasons why she’s my Covid Hero !”
All of Whalley Surgery has worked tirelessly for local residents during this situation and all deserve our thanks. This is a little token for Amy to enjoy for the extra work and as a bit of a belated Birthday treat!
Join our mailing list to nominate a local hero and be the first to find out who the next Local Covid Heroes are.
