We have an incredible opportunity for a Wine Bar Manager to join us in the exciting next step for The Whalley Wine Shop…

For several years we have operated The Whalley Wine Shop as a ‘Hybrid’ – half wine shop and half wine bar. This has been brilliant fun and enabled us to stay true to our aim of opening great wines on site enabling our customers to taste, sample and discover new wines.We have long planned to expand the ‘Wine Bar’ element and we’re nearly there. We are well on with refurbishing the ‘Old Barclays’ building next door to the shop and opening it as a dedicated wine bar.

THE WHALLEY WINE SHOP WILL REMAIN OPEN AS A SHOP all that is changing is the wine bar element will move into its own dedicated premises next door. This will happen later this month or early June and we will provide you with more info before then.

We now need to recruit the right person to help us run this new venture. This is a great opportunity to join the business at the start, the most exciting time.

Unfortunately this isn’t a call to anyone with some bar experience… We need a candidate with great wine knowledge, a real genuine passion for wine and strong experience in a Bar management or General management role.

Full Time Bar Manager vacancy

With the same ethos as The Whalley Wine Shop the bar will continue to be a family run business, fiercely independent, forward thinking with a hardworking and passionate team.

Initially spearheaded by Tom Jones, MD and founder of The Whalley Wine Shop we are looking to recruit a Bar Manager who will work closely in conjunction with the MD to establish the business with our ethos of passion for the product and passion for customer service. Ideally after 6 months you will take over operational control reporting directly to the MD.

  • To create the best wine bar in the Ribble Valley, in Lancashire and in the whole of the North West
  • To create a friendly, welcoming stylish space
  • To offer an amazing choice of superb wines
  • To bring together a team of passionate, well trained wine lovers offering industry leading customer service

The ideal candidate

  • You must love wine. Not just drink it or know a bit about it but really enjoy and be passionate about wine. Ideally you will have WSET level 3 though level 2 will be considered.
  • With a minimum of 12 months bar management experience you will be responsible for recruitment, training, and supervision of staff, have a comprehensive knowledge of H&S procedures, great inter-personal skills and superb customer service.
  • A desire to get involved in this exciting project from the start and to put your own personal stamp on it eventually taking full control and full responsibility for the success and profitability of the bar.
  • You will be supported by a full time Assistant Manager and also part time staff as required.
  • Full UK driving license and 3 years driving experience.
