Torre del Falasco Amarone della Valpolicella

Run by Luca Degani since 1995, the Cantina Valpantena is now one of Italy’s best cooperative wineries, with 700 hectares of vineyard producing excellent quality fruit. Matt Thomson of Blank Canvas, who also makes some of the Alpha Zeta wines here, has worked closely with Luca at Cantina Valpantena since 1999. The grapes for this Amarone are grown on lower sites around the Verona hills, at altitudes between 100-350 metres above sea level.

Deep ruby in colour, this wine has aromas of ripe plums, spice and cocoa, which give way to a solid tannin structure that supports the concentrated, dried-cherry fruit character. It is long and silky on the finish, with a bitter cherry-chocolate twist characteristic of good Amarone.
