1. Vistamar Brisa Sauvignon Blanc- Central Valley, Chile, 2019, 12.5%
This Sauvignon Blanc was created to enjoy the simple things that surround us every day.
Intense aromas of fresh fruits, such as grapefruit, green apple and pineapple, that intermingle with notes of white flowers, jasmine and orange blossom. Light, fresh and zesty this is a great white for matching with a green salad or feta cheese.
2. Little Cricket Gruner Veltliner- Hungary, 2018, 12%
Gruner Veltliner is a white grape variety best known in Austria, but this is a great little wine from Hungary and is very food friendly. Dry, clean and crisp with distinctive notes of citrus, plum, light green apple and a hint of white pepper. Excellent as an aperitif or pair with seafood dishes including shrimp salad and sushi.
3. Scribble Verdelho- South Eastern Australia, 2016, 14.5%
Verdelho has long been used to make delicious whites in Spain and Portugal, however being a heat loving grape variety it also does incredibly well in Australia’s warm regions. This example is full of rich and ripe citrus fruit, think bright tangy lemon curd with a soft finish. The blank back label encourages you to create your own tasting notes or scribble your own design. Lovely own its own or great with a fragrant chicken curry.
4. Sierra de Enmedio Sauvignon Blanc- Jumilla, Spain, 2018, 12%
Sauvignon Blanc from hotter regions can sometimes lack acidity and refreshing aromas- but not this one! A great alternative to New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc at a fantastic price. Lots of flavours of green apple, greenage, and that classic grassiness that you associate with Sauvignon Blanc. Very easy drinking, and so refreshing, it will invite you back for a second glass.#
5. Calusari Pinot Grigio- Romania, 2018, 12%
Englishman Philip Cox and his wife Elvira have transformed 700 hectares of decrepit vineyards, situated in the west of Romania, near Banat, and replaced them with immaculately tended vines; thus creating the Cramele Recas Estate. They are producing a Pinot Grigio that actually tastes great! Lovely, opulent aromas of grapefruit and peach follow through to a clean and fresh wine with lovely balanced fruit and acidity and a good all rounder. Great to pair with creamy pasta dishes.
6. Spitting Spider Chardonnay- McLaren Vale, Australia, 2016, 13%
A classic example of a soft, fruity and easy going Chardonnay from Australia. An intense nose of green apple, peaches and lemon zest leading to a palate of apple and fresh fruit. Crisp and fresh with underlying citrus tones. This will work well with seafood, light fish and white meat dishes, or just as a glass by itself after a hard day’s work.
1. Calusari Pinot Noir- Romania, 2018, 12.5%
From the same producer as the Calusari Pinot Grigio above. Pinot Noir is notoriously difficult to produce well at a good price but this Romanian example manages to do just that. Bright fruit in a light style but with soft low tannins and a nice refreshing acidity. Dark cherry dominates on the nose and palate but with little hints of spice and tobacco. Can be served slightly chilled with fish, think tandoori style monkfish.
2. Black Bear Red Velvet- California, USA, 2018, 12.5%
This wine is brand new to The Whalley Wine Shop, and is full of surprises! Black bear is a known symbol of leadership, authority and inspiration. Courageous and bold, energetic and strong willed. This wine is luxuriously smooth and easy-drinking; not too hard, not too soft. It’s just right. Best served with friends and intelligent conversation.
3. Cuvée 1818 Bordeaux Red- Bordeaux, France, 2016, 14%
In 1818 at the age of 19, Jean Maria Calvet realised his passion for wines and established the Calvet House. Traditional blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc which have been harvested at perfect ripeness. Dark ruby in colour this wine reveals fragrant aromas of mocha balsamic and sandalwood. This is a full bodied wine bursting with flavours of blue, black and red berry fruit and hints of licorice. Enjoy with steak frites.
4. Domini Douro Red- Duoro, Portugal, 2014, 14%
Domini is produced with traditional Portugese grapes; Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional. Grown in the Douro Superior, showing all the character, beauty and excellence of this unique wine region. This wine is smooth, fruity with vibrant notes of violet, cherry and spice from maturation in French and American oak. Pairs well with lamb chop casserole.

Vistamar wines were created with the mindset to enjoy the everyday pleasures of life. This Carmenere is a classic example,made in a very approachable and easy drinking style! It offers red fruit aromas intermingled with spice, mocha and vanilla. There are smooth and silky tannins which together provide a long, pleasant finish with touches of mature fruits. 6. Sierra de Enmedio Monastrell- Jumilla, Spain, 2018, 13%
Alceno is a family owned winery that has been making wines in Jumilla since 1870. They specialise in making wines from old vine Monastrell that are true to terroir but offer freshness and intense fruit character at an exceptional price. Spicy, with a touch of savoury richness and baked earth over lots of bright black fruit and good freshness on the finish. Enjoy with beef short ribs and pork shoulder.
