It’s been a long held ambition of The Whalley Wine Shop to make our own gin, something unique, and crafted especially for us. But we also wanted it to have a genuine link to Whalley, using local ingredients grown by local people. We talked to the fab people at Whalley in Bloom who suggested using herbs grown for centuries at Whalley Abbey mixed with herbs grown in the gardens of local villagers.
The result is a gin with a unique recipe, a combination of fresh sage, rosemary and thyme all grown in Whalley combined with delicate chamomile, juniper and other botanicals. It sounds delicious, and it really is! So our sage, rosemary and chamomile ‘King St. Gin’ was born.
It has a gorgeous flavour, soft, with a lovely fresh herby style but balanced by sweet notes of orange, juniper and cinnamon. We think it’s perfect mixed with Fever Tree Mediterranean Tonic, a dollop of crushed ice, and topped with a sliver of orange peel.
This ‘limited edition’ gin is handmade in Lancashire, crafted and distilled in Brindle, by Brindle Distillery makers of the fabulous Cuckoo Gin, and only 150 numbered bottles have been produced. The bottle also has a local theme as the label features a reproduction of a superb charcoal drawing of The Whalley Wine Shop which was given to Jen and Tom as a wedding gift.
The price at £39.99 a bottle is excellent value and also includes a charity donation. As a thank you for the help in creating King St. Gin, and also for the amazing work Whalley in Bloom do making our village look incredible, we will be donating £3 from every bottle sold to their fundraising efforts.
King St. Gin is great for both enjoying at home and also for giving as a cool and unique pressie this Christmas! As a result we anticipate that we will sell all 150 bottles, and currently there are no plans to produce any more. The gin arrived in-store this week and is now on sale. If you would like us to reserve you a bottle or two, please e-mail email@example.com.
