While catching up on emails and articles that ‘I must read’ I stumbled across an opinion piece by a South African winemaker who was describing the effect of the country’s decision to halt alcohol sales and its knock-on effect on the industry. If you’re interested in the article by Bruce Jack you can find it by clicking here

As some of you may know, my love affair with wine started in South Africa. Find out how ‘South Africa Turned My Head’ by clicking here. So, all of this got me thinking, lets push some of the region’s brightest stars and best value wines and remind people why we think South Africa is a buzzing wine making region!

Plus by choosing to drink South African wine you’ll be helping to save the eighth largest wine producing country in the world, not to mention the future of South Africa’s 533 wineries, 278 grape-growing farms and over 300,000 jobs.

The first project was to create a 6-bottle case to appeal to everyone. We’ve put together six wines (3 whites and 3 reds) from well-established wine producers that have been tried and tested by the whole team!

The case includes:
1 x The Wolftrap White Blend- Western Cape, 2019, 13.5%
1 x The Wolftrap Red Blend- Western Cape, 2018, 14.5%
1 x Warwick Estate The First Lady Chardonnay- South Africa, 2019, 13%
1 x Warwick Estate The First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon- Western Cape, 2018, 13.5%
1 x MAN Pinotage- Coastal Region, 2018, 13.5%
1 x ‘The Wedge’ Chenin Blanc/Roussanne- Swartland, 2018, 13%

All of this for £65, of which we are going to donate £5 per case sold to the charity that Bruce Jacks is helping during this time, The HeadStart Trust- buy your case in store and online here.

Also, with every case purchased we will put your name into a raffle draw to win a fantastic prize consisting of three top wines from the region: 1 x Boekenhoutskloof ‘The Chocolate Block’, 1 x Vilafonte ‘Seriously Old Dirt’ and 1 x Painted Wolf Pictus VI. That’s a seriously good prize worth over £70!

Not only have we got this great case together, but we have dug really deep into our stocks and managed to put together a few more Chocolate Block Vertical Trio sets! This is a limited edition trio pack- containing 1 bottle of the 2016, 1 bottle of the 2017 and 1 bottle of the current vintage, 2019. These are being made exclusively to our mailing list!

We only have very limited stock available priced at £79.99 each. This is a great gift for any South African wine lover! Buy online here.

Made by Boekenhoutskloof (try saying that after a few glasses of Chocolate Block!) one of Franschhoek’s
leading producers of Syrah or Shiraz. They believe that the vineyards they own are ideally suited to
producing Red Blends specifically from the grape varieties found in the Rhone Valley in France. Thus the
Chocolate Block is a big, dark, brooding, rich blend of Syrah, Grenache and Cinsault.
And don’t just thing it’s all hype, Boekenhoutskloof were named as ‘Winery of the Year 2020’ by the
Platter guide, the benchmark for South African Wines.

Finally, we have some great examples of the variety that the country has to offer the wine aficionado. So please, come down to the shop, call us or have a look on our website and have your head turned by this great wine producing region.
